Phase Two - In The Midst
With phase one released to us for occupancy in late August 2007, we prepared for phase two to begin by moving the church offices to parts of the phase one areas. The children’s ministry moved out of the annex building and back into the main building, with a few classrooms to be used as temporary offices. The new food pantry became the temporary church entrance and phase two demolition began in September 2007.

With all that phase two was going to address, it quickly became obvious that phase two would need to be broken into segments of its own. Phase 2A took on the remodeling of pastor and staff offices upstairs and downstairs. A new reception area was created to serve as the church office entrance during weekday office hours. Several more classrooms were created upstairs for adult Bible study and large group meetings. During this phase, the restrooms are being relocated and getting a complete and much needed overhaul. Most importantly the restrooms are now easily accessed by physically challenged individuals. Meeting city codes for accessibility for the physically challenged and fire safety were carried through all areas in this stage of the renovation.

Phase 2A is scheduled for completion the beginning of February 2008 and will give us better functionality and access for reaching out to and meeting the needs of the Hampton Roads community with the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Still to Come …

Phase 2B will give us an elevator to complete accessibility to the second floor for those with physical challenges. In phase 2B we will get a unique icon and entryway for welcoming members and guests into Vineyard Community Church for weekend services. Issues with the exterior of the building will be addressed as well in this phase, and our building exterior will show that we are a beacon of Christ’s light to Hampton Roads.

Phase One...Done !
January 2008.  So much has happened in a year! In February 2007 the IFH renovations began to our building. In order to continue to minister to the Hampton Roads community from our present facility the renovations were segmented to be done in 3 major phases. Phase 1 began in February 2007 and was completed in August 2007. With phase one the functionality of our building changed dramatically. We have doubled the number of children and youth classrooms allowing us to accommodate the increasing number of youth that God is calling to Vineyard Community Church. A large community area was built upstairs to accommodate the meetings of large ministry groups and the youth midweek services. The food pantry area has also doubled in size which will allow us to help many more families in the future. All of our classrooms and new public areas are now handicap accessible and our building is now safe and secure with a sprinkler system. The roof trusses which were discovered to be old and weakened were replaced as well as the leaky roof.

First Signs
Monday, February 5, 2007

The first signs of construction are starting to show. HOY Construction began building dust partition walls in the downstairs and upstairs foyers and have started repairing our roof. Once these are complete, demolition and construction of the classrooms will start.

Ready, Set...Not Yet
Sunday, January 7, 2007

The building permit was posted and the construction trailer arrived on site then we hit our first bump in the road of our renovation journey. HOY Construction discovered that our roof would need to be repaired before demolition and construction could begin. HOY has called in specialists and are working to quickly resolve this problem.

First Fruits Weekend
Saturday, November 18 & Sunday, November 19, 2006

Following the excitement of Celebration Sunday just a week prior, our faithful congregation contributed $353,418.43 towards the IFH Campaign during First Fruits Weekend. With more than 10% of the needed funds now raised, construction to our building will soon begin.

Celebration Sunday
Sunday, November 12, 2006

The rain could not keep the crowd from forming under the Big Top Tent for the biggest event in the history of Vineyard Community Church. Young and old alike came together to celebrate the culmination of the Investing through Faith for tomorrow's Harvest Capital Campaign. Pastors Andy and Sharon spoke on "Building A Life of Celebration" and Pastor Ron and his band led everyone in a time of praise and worship. Commitment cards were completed and prayer over. Moments later and with much excitement, Pastor Andy announced that $3,350,572.76 was pledged for the renovation of the building. As the celebration came to an end the congregation reflected on the mighty ways the Lord had moved during the past several weeks.

Pledges of Faith
Saturday, November 4, 2006

Pastor Andy announced that over the past 9 weeks the children and youth of Vineyard Community Church have been collecting money towards the Investing through Faith for tomorrow's Harvest campaign. Through their sacrifice the children raised $200.06 and the youth raised $2,847.84. In addition, 15 youth leaders in middle and high school have pledged $24,784.36 over the next 1 to 3 years. The pastors also asked their staff and leaders to make an advance commitment prior to the rest of the congregation. Their pledges totaled $2,020,550 which is 67% of the $3,000,000 needed to renovate our building. In all, $2,048,382.26 has been pledged to the Investing through Faith for tomorrow's Harvest campaign. The staff and leaders have also committed to give $325,000 to the First Fruits offering during the weekend of November 18 & 19.

"The people rejoiced at the willing response of their leaders,
for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the LORD."
